One of the most common misconceptions about Riverhouse is that its expensive. Offering cable tv, internet, 3,000 movie media server, pool table and a gym in a 4,600 square foot home on the river at $600 a month seems… reasonable to us. And most others! But, as the landscape of sober living and the surrounding treatment centers changes here in Lafayette, we feel it appropriate to make some changes to adapt.

Why the changes?

Last year Woodlake Addiction Center took over ARC in downtown Lafayette and now offers partial with “sober living”, Whispering Oaks opened 3 sober living homes, Oxford took over an 8 bedroom home and 5 homes called St. Michael’s homes opened. The sober living market in Lafayette is FLOODED with cheap flop houses and dope dens so unfortunately we need to compete in order to survive.

If Riverhouse is so awesome you shouldn’t need to lower the price right?

Riverhouse largely relies on the local treatment centers for residents since its a requirement of entrance that you have completed some level of care to get in. Now that almost all the local treatment centers have their own sober homes it makes it VERY difficult to get them to refer no matter how awesome our house is or how solid the recovery of our residents is. We (and many others) believe that Riverhouse is actually under-priced compared to what’s out there, but one of our core beliefs has always been to stay affordable.

We have gotten feedback from others that coming up with $600 for the first month is a major stretch for most people in treatment. We aren’t actually changing the monthly price. That’s still going to be $600 a month, but we are going to be offering a $200 a week option for those that need it. Obviously $200 a week is more than $600 a month but it allows us to compete with the other sober homes in the area.
