Because sobriety for everyone in a recovery house is new, structure is important. But, every sober house is different. Those recovery houses such as Riverhouse that require daily structure and routine are obviously better than those that are more relaxed. Recovery houses that utilize the 12 Step program are better designed to support those new to recovery. Think of a recovery house as a way to “test the waters” while easing back into a regular life pattern. The support and structure of a sober environment allows the newly recovering addict a cushion to fall back on.
Today, recovery houses are an integral part of a comprehensive recovery program. The goal of Riverhouse is to create an environment similar to that of “real life”. Riverhouse provides the newly sober addict with a clean and sober house that will not overwhelm the recovering addict with intense financial or personal obligations during this transitional period.
All of the residents are involved in recovery. The strong sense of community among the residents is created from sharing a firm commitment to recovery. Residents work together using skills learned in treatment to support one another in early sobriety. Adjusting to life in the outside world can be a serious challenge for the newly sober addict or alcoholic. Attendance of 12-step meetings help the newly sober person to make connections with other drug addicts and alcoholics who have insight and wisdom as well as practical advice to share with newly sober people to develop individual recovery.

Riverhouse Sober Living is located on 3 acres of property in Lafayette, Louisiana. Riverhouse is a five bedroom, two story home nestled in large oak trees in a quiet neighborhood on the Vermilion River. Each semi-private bedroom offers a pillow top mattress, 400-plus thread count sheets and provides the resident with a clean, comfortable and nicely decorated living environment. Free Wireless Internet Access available as well.
